As week eight comes to a close, we are in the final push of our summer research endeavors. In five short days, we experienced the throes of unending R errors, the promise of progress, and ultimately the elation of success.

The week began slowly while we wrestled with the same malfunctioning R code with which we have been working since early July. With no success on this front, we were forced to abandon this code temporarily.

However, we revisited this problematic code on Thursday with Deanna in a Skype meeting. After a day of hard work, Deanna had successfully solved our coding problems.

The results were stunning, and prompted perhaps the greatest moment of excitement in our research thus far. We had created surfaces and persistence diagrams of the ATom-1 data!

With functioning surface-generating code, the entire data set of variables has been opened to us for analysis. We are filled with excitement to continue analyzing the data in this new, powerful way as we head into our last weeks of research. This week has ended with high fives and smiles all around!
